we keep the smallest amount of information we can: the approximate place and time you pinned, the text of a note while it's active, and the messages in a conversation you choose to open.
we also keep a device token so we can send you the notifications you've turned on.
we don't store your name, your photo, your contacts, your precise gps history, or your social accounts. we don't have a profile of you, because there is no profile to have.
two notes match when they describe the same place in a close enough window of time, and each person's self-description fits the other's description of who they noticed.
the matching happens on our servers with help from an ai made by anthropic. we see that a match was made; we never keep the notes themselves beyond 48 hours.
we send what you write to anthropic's claude api to compare your description with other people's descriptions. anthropic does not use this content to train its models and does not retain it beyond the request. see anthropic's privacy policy .
we use google maps inside the app to show you the map and help you find a place. when you use the search bar, your query is sent to google so it can return suggestions. see google's privacy policy .
we use supabase to store our database and apple's push notification service (via expo) to deliver notifications. these providers process data only to run the service.
you can delete a note before it expires, step away from a conversation at any time, block a person you’ve matched with so they can never reach you again, or ask us to forget your device entirely from settings (see how to delete your data below).
to delete every record afterglance holds about your device:
open the app, tap the settings icon in the top right, tap “privacy”, then tap “delete my afterglance” and confirm.
this is a one-tap, permanent action. it wipes:
— every note you have written (active or expired)
— every match you have been part of
— every conversation and the messages inside it
— your push notification token
— any pinned location coordinates tied to your device
— the anonymous device id itself
deletion runs immediately on our database. encrypted backups are rotated and fully purged within 30 days. once deleted, no part of your activity can be reconstructed because there was never a name, email, or any other identifier linking the device id to you.
if you have already uninstalled the app and need us to delete a device record on your behalf, email support@nodevlabs.com from any address — describe roughly when you used afterglance and we will remove anything we can attribute to you within 24 hours.
afterglance is for adults (18+) who choose to use it. we have zero tolerance for abusive users or objectionable content — hate speech, harassment, sexual content, threats, illegal material, or any content that targets someone who did not choose to be on afterglance.
every note and message runs through an automated filter before it reaches anyone else. from any conversation you can report a message or block the other person with one tap; reported content is reviewed by a human within 24 hours, and users who violate these rules lose access to the service and have their data removed.
to report abuse or objectionable content outside the app, or to flag an urgent safety concern, email support@nodevlabs.com. a real person responds within 24 hours.
